Buffalo State Men’s Basketball Falls to Brockport, 89-79

BUFFALO, N.Y.— Michael Henry (Syracuse/W.Genesee) recorded his third career double-double with 23 points and 12 rebounds, but it was not enough to get past Brockport on Friday night as the Bengals dropped an 89-79 SUNYAC matchup.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a scoreless two minutes to open the game, Brockport was the first to get on the board with a layup at 17:55.
  • Buffalo State took over the lead, 6-4, off a fast break layup from Henry at 16:23.
  • The Bengals held onto their lead until a Golden Eagle basket at 6:25 put Brockport up 24-23.
  • A 9-1 run from the Golden Eagles that started at the five minute mark, put them ahead 38-28 with 2:59 on the clock.
  • In the closing seconds of the half, two free throws from Brockport gave them a 44-33 lead heading into halftime.
  • Brockport took to the paint early in the second half and extended its lead out to 18, 58-40, at 15:31.
  • The Bengals managed to slowly chip away at the Golden Eagles' double-digit lead and came within five points with 1:35 remaining, but strong free throw shooting in the final minute helped Brockport seal the win.
  • Henry led the Buffalo State offense with his double-double. Lovell Smith (Buffalo/McKinley) finished the night with 14 points, while Nico McLean (Buffalo/Amherst) added 11 points and Jordan Chateau (Bayside/Lowell) chipped in 10.
  • The Bengals finished the night shooting 44.3 percent from the floor, 21.1 percent from 3-point range and 58.3 percent from the charity stripe.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Clifton Lyerly led the Brockport offense with 28 points, while Hamed Shamseldin finished with 20 points and six assists.
  • The Golden Eagles finished the night shooting 55.2 percent from the floor, 57.1 percent from 3-point range and 63 percent from the charity stripe.
