Women’s Basketball Falls at New Paltz, 92-61

NEW PALTZ, N.Y.—  Jordan Yastremski (Bath/Bath-Haverling) recorded her 10th career double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds, but New Paltz took advantage of 35 Buffalo State turnovers to beat the Bengals 92-61 in a conference matchup on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • New Paltz jumped out to a quick lead 5-0 lead just over a minute into play and never looked back, building its lead to as many as 11 by the end of the first quarter.
  • Back-to-back 3-pointers in the second quarter, pushed the Hawks lead out to 15 points, 32-17, with 3:38 to play.
  • The Bengals did manage to cut New Paltz's lead down to single digits, 34-25, heading into halftime.
  • In the third quarter, however, the Hawks hit back-to-back 3-pointers again to go ahead, 40-24, in the opening minutes and were able to pull away from Buffalo State.
  • The closest the Bengals would get in the final quarter was 21 points at 9:30.
  • Yastremski led the Buffalo State offense, while Clarisa Matias (Buffalo/Holy Angels) added 11 points. Britt Perry (Buffalo/Hutch Tech) and Caleh McLean (New Rochelle/New Rochelle) each chipped in nine points.
  • The Bengals finished the game shooting 37.9 percent from the floor, 14.3 percent from long range and 62.5 percent from the free throw line.
 
 
FOR THE FOES
  • New Paltz had four players score in double-digits. Goldie Harrison led the Hawks with 20 points, while Courtney Irby added a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Kit Small tallied 12 points and Jasmine Bryant chipped in 11 points.
  • The Hawks finished the game shooting 43.6 percent from the floor, 26.1 percent from long range and 72 percent from the free throw line.
  • New Paltz recorded 32 points off turnovers and 22 fast break points, while the Bengals finished with only 10 points off turnovers and 8 fast break points.
