Men’s Hockey Crushes Potsdam, 6-1

BUFFALO, N.Y.—Mac Wood (Simcoe, ON/SCS) and Anthony Beaumont (Lester, PA/Interboro) each scored twice and Buffalo State pulled away with three third-period goals to defeat visiting Potsdam, 6-1, in a SUNYAC contest tonight at the Ice Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Cory Gurski (Hilton, NY/Hilton) and Jake Rosen (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville North) added a goal and an assist each. 
  • Nick Berst (Depew, NY/Lancaster) and Ryan Salkeld (Virginia Beach, VA/Churchland) chipped in two assists apiece.
  • Wood scored the opened the scoring just under five minutes into the game, and then added his sixth of the year on the power play to give Buffalo State a 2-0 lead at the first intermission.
  • After Potsdam pulled with one midway through the second stanza, Beaumont reclaimed the two-goal lead for the Bengals heading into the final 20 minutes.
  • Beaumont netted his second of the game and ninth of the season early in the third period on the power play and the flood gates opened.
  • Gurski scored his second of the year on a nifty breakaway move just under two minutes later, and Rosen completed the scoring with his fourth of the year later in the frame.
  • Mike DeLaVergne (Pawling, NY/Pawling) finished with 27 saves in goal for the victory as Buffalo State outshot the Bears, 32-28.
  • The Bengals connected on 2 of 3 power-play opportunities, and Potsdam finished 0 for 3.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Tommy Telesca scored Potsdam's only goal. 
  • Brendan McMenimen had 22 saves on 28 shots before being relieved by Trever Ralph who stopped all four shots he faced.
