Women’s Lacrosse Drops Season-Opener at No. 19 Union, 16-7

SCHENECTADY, N.Y.— Alanna Herne (Tonawanda/Tonawanda) tallied four goals and two assists, but it was not enough as Buffalo State fell at No. 19 Union, 16-7, in today's season-opener.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Christina Krowel (Amsterdam/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) added a pair of goals to support the Bengals' offense, and Ally Ruggieri (Brockport/Brockport) also scored.
  • Buffalo State took a 2-1 lead, but Union responded with 10-consecutive goals and led 11-3 at halftime. 
  • The Dutchwomen extended the lead with the first four goals of the second half and coasted to the victory.
  • Union outshot Buffalo State, 31-17, including 22-8 in the first half.  The Dutchwomen held a narrow 14-11 edge in draw controls, and committed 16 turnovers, compared to 23 by the Bengals.
  • Elyse Stark (Lido Beach/Long Beach) finished with 13 saves for the Buffalo State.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Jackie Hagopian led Union with four goals and two assists.
  • Cailin Pandolfi and Natalie Sullivan had three goals apiece, and Jessica Farland scored twice.
 
UP NEXT
Buffalo State will play a pair of games at Utica this weekend, taking on the host Pioneers on Friday and Albright on Saturday.
