Softball Pounds Millikin, UW-Platteville

CLERMONT, Fla.—Buffalo State produced 43 hits and used a pair of huge innings in two abbreviated wins today, posting 15-0 six-inning victory over Millikin before using an 18-run inning with two outs to defeat University of Wisconsin-Platteville 19-6 in just five innings tonight on the second day of its annual spring trip to Clermont, Fla.
 
GAME 1 BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Lexi Haley (Rochester/Aquinas) led the Bengals offense in the first game, going 4 for 4 with a home run, two doubles, five RBIs and two runs scored.  She also earned the win in the circle, allowing just four hits in the six-inning shutout.
  • Danielle Szymkowiak (Cheektowaga/Cheektowaga) was 3 for 3 with a home run and four runs scored, and Chrissy Rennard (Brockport/Brockport) was 3 for 4 with three RBIs.
  • Jean Stahl (W. Seneca/W. Seneca East) went 2 for 3 with a pair of doubles, while Laura Crooks (Niagara Falls/Niagara Wheatfield) and Stephanie Novo (Cheektowaga/Depew) added a two hits apiece.
  • Buffalo State ended the contest early with an eight-run top of the sixth after plating one run in the first and three runs each in the third and fourth innings.
  • The Bengals tallied 21 hits in all with 11 different player collecting at least one hit.

  • Alyssa Voegele had a double for one of Millikin's four hits.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Haley and the rest of the Bengals continued to roll at the plate, as she was 4 for 5 with a double, an RBI and three runs scored.  She also earned her second win of the night in the circle, allowing five hits and just one run in 4 1/3 innings after coming on in relief with two outs in the first.
  • Rennard also finished 4 for 5 with two doubles, two RBIs and three runs scored.
  • Cassandra O'Hern (Augusta, NJ/High Point) was 3 for 4 with two doubles and three RBIs, and Sarah Gorski (Cheektowaga/Depew) was 2 for 4 with a double and four RBIs.
  • Novo, Crooks, and Megan Mingle (Williamsville/Williamsville South) added two hits each.
  • Platteville took an early lead with five runs on two hits, one error, four walks and a hit by pitch in the first inning.
  • After trading runs over the next two innings, Buffalo State exploded to score 18 runs, all coming with two outs, on 16 hits in the fourth inning to take the lead, 19-6.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Hailey Truman had a triple and two RBIs for the Pioneers. 
  • Keeley Schultz also had two RBIs.
 
UP NEXT
Buffalo State will take tomorrow off and will return to action on Wednesday at Hancock Park against Loras and Benedictine at 1 and 3 p.m. respectively.
