No. 15 St. John Fisher Tops Women’s Lacrosse, 16-3

PITTSFORD, N.Y.— Nationally-ranked No. 15 St. John Fisher held visiting Buffalo State scoreless in the second half en route to a 16-3 victory in a non-conference game today at Growney Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Christina Krowel (Amsterdam/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) scored twice for the Bengals, and Alanna Herne (Tonawanda/Tonawanda) had a goal and an assist.
  • After trading goals to open the game, the host Cardinals pushed the advantage to 8-2 before Krowel netted her second of the game to cut the deficit to five with 29 seconds left in the first half. 
  • Fisher only surrendered a single shot off goal in the second frame, while converting on 8 of its 14 shots to pull away.
  • The Cardinals finished with a 28-9 advantage in shots and also maintained a 16-10 edge in ground balls and a 12-8 margin in draw controls. 
  • Buffalo State committed 20 turnovers, compared to 14 by Fisher.
  • Elyse Stark (Lido Beach/Long Beach) played the complete game in goal for the Bengals, finishing with eight saves.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Jordan Johnson led 10 Fisher goal-scorers, tallying four goals and four assists. 
  • Kelsie Schindler, Chrissy Cook and Kaitlyn Agedal added two goals apiece.
  • Haley Peets needed to make just three saves in goal for the win.
