No. 1 Cortland overpowers Women’s Lacrosse, 20-6

CORTLAND, N.Y.—Undefeated and nationally No. 1 ranked Cortland jumped out to a 15-4 lead by halftime and cruised to a 20-6 victory over visiting Buffalo State today in a SUNYAC contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Cassie Saint-Vil (Middletown/Middletown) scored a pair of goals and Alanna Herne (Tonawanda/Tonawanda) added a goal and three assists to lead Buffalo State's offense.
  • Christina Krowel (Amsterdam/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake), Morgan Hogue (Painted Post/Corning), and Sarah Lorusso (Lakeview/Frontier) also scored for the Bengals.
  • Elyse Stark (Lido Beach/Long Beach) played the first half in goal, making two stops while allowing 15 goals.  Megan Doyle (Palmyra/Palmyra-Macedon) also made two saves and allowed five goals in the second half.
  • Cortland scored four-straight goals to take an early 8-2 lead and pushed the lead to 11 at the intermission before slowing the pace in the second half.
  • The Red Dragons finished with a 27-16 advantage in shots and held a 17-11 edge in draw controls.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Kristen Ohberg led Cortland with 11 points on three goals and eight assists.
  • Tara Monaghan scored a game-high five goals, and Hannah Elmre added three goals and three assists.
  • Ashley Gentile tallied four goals and an assist, while five other players added single markers.
  • Three Cortland goalies combined to make seven saves.
 
UP NEXT
Buffalo State will close out the SUNYAC regular season with a "Battle by the Lake" contest against Fredonia at home on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
