BUFFALO, N.Y.—Buffalo State moved into a tie for a playoff position with a two-game split against second-place Plattsburgh today, winning the opening game 4-1 before falling 7-5 in eight innings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jean Stahl (W. Seneca/W. Seneca East) was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI for Buffalo State.
- Laura Crooks (Niagara Falls/Niagara Wheatfield) was 2 for 4 with an RBI.
- Lexi Haley (Rochester/Aquinas) continued her strong run, tossing a complete-game five-hitter with no earned runs and five strikeouts.
- The Bengals opened the scoring with a run in the second and then scored again in the third on Stahl's RBI double.
- Plattsburgh plated a run in the fourth, but Stephanie Novo (Cheektowaga/Depew) blasted a solo home run over the left field wall to reclaim the two-run lead.
- Buffalo State completed the scoring with an insurance marker in the sixth.
FOR THE FOES
- Dominique Zummo finished 2 for 2 with a triple and an RBI for Plattsburgh.
- Morgan Anderson allowed eight hits and struck out five in the loss in the circle.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Danielle Szymkowiak (Cheektowaga/Cheektowaga) was 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI to lead the Bengals, while Crooks was also 3 for 4 with a run scored.
- Novo added a triple and an RBI.
- Haley was 2 for 4 at the plate and suffered the loss in the circle, allowing 14 hits with five strikeouts in another complete-game effort.
- Plattsburgh scored it each of the first three inning to jump out to a 4-0 lead, while retiring each of Buffalo State's first 10 batters in order.
- The Bengals roared back with a run in the fourth and four more runs in a seven-hit fifth inning to take a 5-4 advantage.
- Plattsburgh evened the score with a run-scoring double in the sixth, and then scored two more on a two-out double in the eighth inning.
- Buffalo State loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the frame, but could not push the runs home.
FOR THE FOES
- Jennifer Groat led Plattsburgh's bats, going 4 for 5 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored.
- Jackie Decker was 3 for 5 with a double and an RBI.
- Anderson earned the win in 3 1/3 innings of shutout relief, allowing four hits. Katie Pitkin had a no-decision, allowing nine hits and five runs in 4 2/3 innings.
