No. 9/10 Oswego slips past Men’s Hockey in wild finish

OSWEGO, N.Y.— No. 9/10-ranked Oswego and Buffalo State combined to score three goals in the final 1:33 of the game, as the Lakers escaped with a 4-3 victory tonight in a SUNYAC contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Oswego opened the scoring five minutes into the game, but Buffalo State responded just over two minutes later when Anthony Passero (Fort Erie, ON/Lakeshore) buried his third goal of the season.
  • The score remained deadlocked at 1-1 until 11:17 remaining the third period when reclaimed the lead.
  • Mac Wood (Simcoe, ON/SCS) fired a long shot from just inside the blue line that whistled wide, but caromed off the back boards and ricocheted off the goaltender's skate and into the back of the net to even the score at 2-2 with just 3:16 remaining in regulation.
  • Oswego answered with 1:33 remaining to pull ahead 3-2, and added an empty net goal 34 seconds later.
  • Buffalo State was not done, however, as Vadim Vasjonkin (Tallinn, Estonia) connected on a one-time for his first collegiate goal with just 37 seconds left on the clock.
  • The Bengals net remained empty, but they could not secure the equalizer.
  • Ian Sylves (Sloan, NY/JFK) finished with 35 saves in the loss as Oswego recorded a 39-24 advantage in shots on goal.
  • Michael Anthony Guerrera (Montreal, QC/OHA) chipped in two assists.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Joseph Molinaro, Aaron Huffnagle, Cameron Berry and Mitch Emerson scored for Oswego.
  • David Richer made 21 stops in the win.
