BUFFALO, N.Y.— After finding itself down by 20 points with three minutes to go in the first half, Buffalo State battled back for the remainder of the evening, but fell short in a 98-92 loss to visiting Villa Maria in the opening round of the Coles Classic.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Mike Henry (Syracuse/West Genesee) was one of two Buffalo State players to record a double-double with 24 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists.
- Sir.Quintin Campbell (Tonawanda/Kenmore East) added 12 points and 10 rebounds.
- Sheldon Adams (Rochester/Bishop Kearney) chipped in 13 points, with Tyrone Adeyeye (Brooklyn/Benjamin Banneker) and Bryan Harrell (Rochester/Early College) each finishing with 10 points.
- Both teams battled in the early minutes of the first half until a 21-4 run by Villa Maria found the Bengals down 56-44 at half.
- Buffalo State chipped away at the lead until a 3-pointer from Gabe McQueen (Brooklyn/Achievement First) tied the game at 69.
- A layup from Henry gave the Bengals its largest lead of the game with a 5-point advantage with 4:43 left in the second half.
- Villa Maria answered with an 18-7 run to close out the game.
- The Vikings held a 28-10 lead in free throws and outshot the Bengals 48 percent to 46 percent from the floor.
- The Bengals outscored Villa Maria in bench points (32-22) and fast break points (13-6) in the loss.

THE EARLY GAME
- Maine-Ft. Kent overcame a 14-point deficit in the first half to win over Point Park, 79-76, in the opening game.
- Thomas Enerva led the Bengals with 20 points and 15 rebounds.
- The Pioneers were led by Daniel King who finished with 22 points.
