No. 13 Men’s Hockey trips Cortland, 4-3

CORTLAND, N.Y.—No. 13 Buffalo State scored twice in the third period to claim a 4-3 victory over host Cortland tonight in a SUNYAC game at Alumni Arena.  The win guarantees a home playoff game for the Bengals.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Mac Wood (Simcoe, ON/SCS), Nick Berst (Depew, NY/Lancaster), Zach Remers (Clarence, NY/Canisius) and Jonathan Colley (Stouffville, ON/Stouffville District) all scored for Buffalo State.
  • Colin O'Connor (Kankakee, IL/Providence Catholic) recorded a pair of assists.
  • Buffalo State jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals by Wood and Berst just over a minute apart, but Cortland answered with two goals of its own in a span of 31 seconds to even the score at 2-2 before the first intermission.
  • After a scoreless second period, the Bengals reclaimed the two-goal lead with two goals in the first 7:23 of the third by Remers and Colley.
  • The Red Dragons closed the gap to one, striking with the extra-attacker with just 32 seconds remaining, but the Bengals held on for the win.
  • Buffalo State finished with a 35-27 advantage in shots. 
  • Mike DeLaVergne (Pawling, NY/Pawling) made 24 saves in the win.

NOTEWORTHY                                     
  • The win guarantees a home playoff game for the Bengals.  Plattsburgh defeated Geneseo, 1-0, locking the Bengals into either third or fourth, earning them the right to host a first round game on Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 7 p.m.
