Women’s Lacrosse erases Elmira, 17-7

BUFFALO, N.Y.— Alanna Herne (Tonawanda/Tonawanda) finished with nine points and Buffalo State used a fast start and a strong finish to cruise to a 17-7 victory over Elmira today in a non-conference game played at D'Youville's Dobson Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Herne led the Bengals with four goals and five assists.
  • Christina Krowel (Amsterdam/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) scored four times, including a pair of goals in the opening minute of the game.
  • Jackie Dufresne (Lake View/Frontier) added three goals, while Cassie Saint-Vil (Middletown/Middletown), Morgan Hogue (Painted Post/Corning) and Nina Schaefer (Lafayette/Lafayette) all had two goals and one assist.
  • The Bengals led 3-0 just over two minutes into the game, and pushed the lead to 5-1 before taking a 9-4 advantage into the intermission.
  • Elmira tried to climb back in the game scoring the first three goals of the second half to cut the deficit to just two, but Buffalo State closed the game on an 8-0 run over the final 23 minutes.
  • Elyse Stark (Lido Beach/Long Beach) made three saves and allowed four goals in the first half, before Megan Doyle (Palmyra/Palmyra-Macedon) let in three goals with five saves in the second half.
  • Buffalo State outshot Elmira 30-24 for the game, including 27-15 on goal.
  • The Bengals also had a 27-13 advantage in ground balls.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Hayley Baker led Elmira's offense with two goals and two assists.
  • Lindsay Wargo made 10 saves in the loss.
