CORTLAND, N.Y.—Cortland plated 23 runs in just eight offensive innings as it defeated visiting Buffalo State 14-2 and 9-0 in a pair of five-inning games today to open SUNYAC play.
GAME #1 BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Buffalo State collected just three hits in the opening game and scored both of its runs on throwing errors by the Red Dragons.
- Cortland belted 14 hits in just four innings and the two teams combined to commit nine errors, including five by the Red Dragons.
- Cortland opened the score with a five-run first inning that included a three-run home run.
- After the Bengals scored one run in the top of the second, the Red Dragons with a seven-run bottom of the second, capped by another three-run home.
- Buffalo State added its final run in the third before Cortland completed the scoring with two more runs in the bottom of the frame.
- Scarlett Whitman (Grand Island/Grand Island) was credited with the loss, pitching one complete inning, surrendering 10 hits and 12 runs (10 earned).
- Nicole Adams (Lockport/Starpoint) pitched the final three innings, allowing four hits and two runs (one earned).

- Jamie Lachall was in the circle for the win, allowing just three hits and no earned runs.
- Niki Barbato was 3 for 3 with a home run and three runs scored.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Buffalo State mustered just three hits again, including Cassandra O'Hern (Augusta, NJ/High Point) and Adams each collecting their second hits of the day.
- Cortland converted nine hits and a pair of Bengal errors into nine runs in four innings.
- The Red Dragons jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first and then scored four more in the third.
- Allie Block (N. Tonawanda/Starpoint) was in the circle for the loss, giving up nine hits and four earned runs while striking out four in four innings.
FOR THE FOES
- Mikayla Shade was 2 for 2 with a pair of doubles and three RBIs for Cortland.
- Alexandrea Flint earned the win, tossing five shutout innings, giving up just three hits.
