BUFFALO, N.Y.—Rutgers-Newark posted a 3-0 victory over host Buffalo State today to open the three-team Bengals Classic at Coyer Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Rutgers-Newark netted the only goal of the first half in the 29th minute on a bouncing through ball that was chipped over the charging goalkeeper's head and into the back of the net.
- The Scarlett Raiders pushed the lead to 2-0 in the 60th minute on an own goal when a cross glanced off the shin of a Bengal defender and inside the right post.
- Rutgers-Newark finished the scoring in the 66th minute when a charging striker beat the Bengals' defender to a rebound off the right post and quickly tapped it home.
- The Scarlett Raiders held a 12-8 advantage in shots for the game and both teams attempted four corner kicks.
- Nicole Torres (Wantagh/MacArthur) finished with two saves and one goal against, playing the first half, while Taylor Carillo (Pine Bush/Pine Bush) allowed a pair of goals and made one save over the final 45 minutes.
FOR THE FOES
- Sabrina Solorzano and Haley Savva scored for the Scarlett Raiders.
- Diana Carvalho and Heidi Paulson needed to combine for just one save for the shutout.
