Brockport edges Women’s Basketball, 59-54

BUFFALO, N.Y.— Katie Villarini (Hamburg/Hamburg) scored a team-high 11 points, chipped in seven rebounds and recorded a career-high eight assists but it was not enough as Buffalo State found themselves on the wrong end of an 11-2 run to close out a 59-54 loss to Brockport this evening in the Sports Arena.

  • Liv LeBaron (Horseheads/Corning Painted Post) added 10 points and finished with three rebounds and two assists.
  • Grace Licata (Williamsville/Williamsville South) chipped in eight points on two 3-pointers and Mariah Rosario (Flushing/RFK) finished with six points and five rebounds.
  • Buffalo State opened the game with a 16-8 run and used the momentum to claim a 16-14 lead after the first 10 minutes of play.
  • A layup by Lay Knight (Brooklyn/Brooklyn Prep) matched the Bengals largest lead of the first half as Buffalo State lead 27-19 at the halfway point of the second quarter.
  • Brockport closed the half on an 8-4 run to close the gap to 31-27 at the half.
  • Buffalo State used a 3-pointer from Villarini to extend the lead to 43-35 at the end of the third quarter.
  • Following a pair of free-throws by Jenna Faulkner (Lockport/Starpoint) with 2:53 left in the fourth period, Brockport ended the game on an 11-2 run to push the game out of reach.
  • Buffalo State outscored the Golden Eagles 22-20 in the paint and 15-12 in bench points.
