BUFFALO, N.Y.— No. 14 Buffalo State exploded for four first-period goals to extend its home unbeaten streak to 11 games with a 6-5 victory over visiting Fredonia in the "Battle by the Lake" contest this evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Vadim Vasjonkin (Tallinn, Estonia/Lake Forest Academy) and Zach Remers (Clarence, NY/Canisius) each tallied a goal and an assist apiece for Buffalo State.
- Ben Butcher (Bellingham, WA/Langley), Paul Cerda (Puigcerda, Spain/Lycee Briancon), Reid Bibb (Gaithersburg, MD/Gaithersburg) and Cody Symonds (Woodbridge, ON/Emily Carr) each scored for the Bengals.
- Anthony Passero (Fort Erie, ON/Lakeshore) and Mac Wood (Simcoe, ON/SCS) each recorded two assists in the game.
- Buffalo State struck first with a power play goal by Vasjonkin off assists from Zach Nieminen (Ajax, ON/Notre Dame CSS) and Michael Anthony Guerrera (Montreal, QC/Ontario Hockey Acad.).
- Following a Fredonia goal, the Bengals found themselves on another power play opportunity and capitalized with a goal from Butcher.
- Buffalo State extended its lead to 4-1, after 20 minutes of play, with goals coming from Cerda off a breakaway and Remers off assists from Passero and Troy Button (Royal Oak, MI/Shrine Catholic).
- Fredonia cut the lead to 4-2 with a short-handed goal to open the second period, but the Bengals responded with a goal from Bibb and a power play goal from Symonds to push the lead to 6-3 at the second intermission.
- The Blue Devils were able to find the back of the net with two late goals in the third period but failed to complete the comeback.
- Goalie Ian Sylves (Sloan, NY/John F. Kennedy) made 22 saves in the net for the Bengals.
- Fredonia held a 27-25 edge in shots for the game.
FOR THE FOES:
- Sam Wilbur, Colin Valentine, Ryan Dunn, Victor Tracy and Jon Carlson all scored for the Blue Devils
- Goalie Eric Bogart picked up the loss in net with 12 saves in two periods of action.
NOTEWORTHY:
- The victory earns Buffalo State another point in the season-long Battle by the Lake competition between the two schools. Fredonia currently leads 9-2.
