No. 14 Men’s Hockey opens new year with 5-3 win over Neumann

BUFFALO, N.Y.— Mac Wood (Simcoe, ON/SCS) scored twice as No. 14 Buffalo State shook off some rust from a nearly one-month layoff in a 5-3 non-conference victory over visiting Neumann tonight at the Ice Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Zach Remers (Clarence, NY/Canisius) and Reid Bibb (Gaithersburg, MD/Gaithersburg) tallied a goal and two assists apiece for Buffalo State.
  • Jon Colley (Stouffville, ON/Stouffville District) also scored for the Bengals.
  • Playing its first game since Dec. 9, Buffalo State fell behind 1-0 just 44 seconds into the contest. 
  • Remers and Wood answered for the Bengals just 47 seconds apart midway through the period to give Buffalo State the lead.
  • Wood's second of the game and ninth over the season on the power play pushed Buffalo State ahead 3-1 before the first intermission.
  • Neumann netted a pair of goals in the second frame to pull even, including a shorthanded tally, and limited the Bengals to just five shots on goal.
  • Buffalo State dominated the third period, outshooting the Knights, 14-5, and Bibb's "seeing-eye" shot from the point put the Bengals back in front just over a minute into the stanza. 
  • Added an insurance marker a few minutes later when he connected on a rebound after Remers drove hard to the net.
  • Buffalo State finished with a 28-24 edge in shots for the game.
  • Ian Sylves (Sloan, NY/JFK) made 21 saves in the win.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Jake Davidson and Liam Board had a goal and an assist each to lead Neumann, and Chris Ordoobadi also scored.
  • Anthony Pupplo finished with 23 saves.

  • Buffalo State has won six consecutive games, outscoring the opposition, 34-9.
