No. 14 Men’s Hockey scores two late goals to cruise past Neumann, 3-0

BUFFALO, N.Y.— Senior Ryan Stayner (Youngstown, NY/Nichols) scored two goals and Ian Sylves (Sloan, NY/John F. Kennedy) made 25 saves as Buffalo State  cruised to a 3-0 victory over visiting Neumann this evening in the Buffalo State College Ice Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Cody Symonds (Woodbridge, ON/Emily Carr) also scored for the Bengals.
  • Jon Colley (Stouffville, ON/Stouffville District) finished with two assists for the game.  
  • Anthony Passero (Fort Erie, ON/Lakeshore), Zach Remers (Clarence, NY/Canisius) and Hugo Petit (Chelsea, QC/CIH Academy) each added an assist in the game.
  • Buffalo State and Neumann matched each other shot for shot in the early minutes of the first period, until Stayner collected a rebound off the shot from Petit and buried it into the back of the net. Petit and Colley picked up assists on the play.
  • The Bengals outshot the Knights 12-6 in the second period and found themselves on two power plays but could not convert.
  • Buffalo State was finally able to break through as Stayner snuck in his second goal of the day past the goalie with 4:12 left in the third period. Remers and Passero each picked up assists.
  • Symonds added an insurance marker less than a minute later to finish off the Bengals scoring. Colley added his second assist on the goal.
  • Buffalo State finished with a 29-25 advantage in shots on goal.
 
FOR THE FOES:
  • Anthony Pupplo made 26 saves in net for the Knights.
 
UP NEXT:
Buffalo State will returns to the ice on Friday, Jan. 12th as it takes on Elmira in a non-conference contest in the Ice Arena. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
