BUFFALO, N.Y.—
J.C. Christopher (Bronx/Mott Haven Campus) went 1-2 from the line with six seconds remaining and a desperation heave by Oneonta failed to connect as Buffalo State escaped with a 72-70 win over the Red Dragons this afternoon in the Sports Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Kareem Holmes (New York/The Knox School) led the Bengals in scoring with a career-high 12 points off the bench.
- Christopher added a career-high 11 points, three rebounds and four assists.
- Sheldon Adams (Rochester/Bishop Kearney) chipped in 10 points while Sir.Quintin Campbell (Tonawanda/Kenmore East) finished with nine points and seven rebounds.
- Buffalo State matched Oneonta point-for-point in the early minutes until a 12-1 run gave the Bengals a 23-13 lead at the 7:12 mark of the first half.
- The Red Dragons battled in the remaining minutes but found themselves on the wrong side of 39-25 deficit to end the half.
- After Buffalo State converted a layup by Malik Turner (New York/NIA Prep) to give themselves a 10-point lead halfway through the second, Oneonta used a 9-2 run to cut the lead back to three points.
- The Bengals knocked down 8-10 free throws in the last six minutes to give themselves a 72-70 lead with six second to play.
- Oneonta's Kevin Mackin had a clean look but saw his shot rim out as time expired.
- Buffalo State outscored the Red Dragons 34-19 in bench production but were outrebounded 46-33.
- The Bengals shot 40 percent from the floor and 62 percent from the charity stripe.
