Buffalo State will make its ninth-consecutive SUNYAC postseason appearance when it hosts No. 5 Fredonia as the No. 4 seed on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
The Bengals finished the regular season 8-6-2 in league play and are 11-12-2 overall, including earning a win and a tie against Fredonia during a home-and-home series back in January. After a 4-4 tie in Fredonia the first night, Buffalo State skated to a 3-1 victory back at the Ice Arena the following night.
Buffalo State boasts the third-highest scoring offense in the SUNYAC, relying on a balanced attack. Senior
Mac Wood (Simcoe, ON/SCS) leads the Bengals with 23 points, including eight goals and 15 assists. Junior
Zach Remers (Clarence, NY/Canisius) is second with 19 points (7 goals, 12 assists), followed by freshman
Andrew Husted (Niagara Falls, NY/Grand Island) with 18 points (9 goals, 9 assists). Team captain sophomore
Vadim Vasjonkin (Tallin, Estonia) has been a key contributor at both ends of the ice and has bolstered the offense with nine goals and 16 points in just 20 games.
Michael Anthony Guerrera (Montreal, QC/Ontario Hockey Academy) leads the Bengals' defensive corps with 17 points, including three goals and 14 assists.
Fredonia is 14-7-4 overall and matched Buffalo State with an 8-6-2 mark in SUNYAC play, including winning three of its final four games.
Buffalo State and Fredonia have met four previous times in the SUNYAC playoff with each team winning twice. The Bengals have claimed the two most recent post season meetings, winning 2-1 in 2017 and 6-0 in 2013. Buffalo State has advanced to seven-straight SUNYAC semifinals, but has never played in the league's championship game.
The winner will advance to play either at No. 1 Geneseo or No. 2 Oswego on Saturday at 7 p.m.
Tickets for Wednesday's game go on sale one hour prior to faceoff and are $5 for adults and $3 for students. Buffalo State and any SUNYAC school students are free with valid ID.
