Women’s Lacrosse dominates Houghton, 22-7

HOUGHTON, N.Y.— Kendall Skuse (Churchville/Churchville-Chili) matched a school record with 13 points as visiting Buffalo State raced past Houghton, 22-7, today to claim its fourth-consecutive victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Skuse scored four goals and had nine assists, which was one shy of tying the school's single-game record.
  • Nina Schaefer (Lafayette/Lafayette) added five goals and an assist, scoring four times in the first 7 minutes, 14 seconds of the game.  She also had five draw controls and five ground balls.
  • Jackie Dufresne (Lake View/Frontier) and Kayla Rose (Lancaster/Lancaster) had three goals and one assist apiece.
  • Liz Schultheis (Brockport/Brockport), Mary Musialowski (Lancaster/Sacred Heart) and Kali Wright (Wyoming/Alexander) scored twice each, and Anisa Mahmood (Niagara Falls/Niagara Falls) also scored.  Schultheis added six draw controls.
  • Buffalo State led 8-1 less than nine minutes into the game and took a 16-4 advantage into halftime before cruising in the second half.
  • The Bengals outshot the Highlanders 33-14 for the game and had a 20-9 edge in draw controls.
  • Janae Nelson (Elmont/Elmont Memorial) and Makenna Murphy (Rochester/Hoosac) each played a half in goal.  Nelson allowed four goals and made four saves, and Murphy had three goals against and three stops.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Meagan Barry scored four times for Houghton, and Cori Beck tallied twice.
 
NOTEWORTHY
  • Buffalo State's 16 goals in the first half matched a school record for goals in a half originally set in 2009 against Oswego.
  • The Bengals four-game winning streak is the team's longest since winning six in a row in 2014.
