OSWEGO, N.Y.—Oswego used the long ball and stingy pitching to claim a pair of SUNYAC victories over visiting Buffalo State today, winning 2-0 in eight innings and 9-2.
GAME #1 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Oswego – 2, Buffalo State - 0 (8 inn.)
LOCATION: Laker Softball Field - Oswego, N.Y.
RECORDS: Oswego (13-16/8-5), Buffalo State (17-14/6-7)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- A two-out, two-run walkoff home run in the eighth inning by the Lakers was the only offense of the opening game.
- Oriana Castello (Pearl River/Nanuet) was in command for the second-consecutive day in the circle, but like yesterday was saddled with a hard-luck loss. Castello allowed just four hits to go with four walks and two strikeouts in 7 2/3 innings.
- Buffalo State managed just three hits for the game and had its first baserunner of the game on a two-out single by Hannah Dunlap (Batavia/Oakfield-Alabama) in the fifth inning.
- The Bengals' best threat came in the eighth inning with a leadoff single and a two-out hit by pitch, but both runners were left stranded.
- Oswego ended the game in the bottom of the frame. The first two hitters were retired, but a walk followed by a two-run homer over the left field fence was the difference.
FOR THE FOES
- Angela Frampton hit the home run for the Lakers, and Rebecca Vilchez allowed just three hits in the eight-inning win.
