BUFFALO, N.Y.—Buffalo State plated 19 runs in two games to sweep its non-conference home-opening doubleheader over Medaille today, winning 11-8 and 8-5.
GAME #1 BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Oriana Castello (Pearl River/Nanuet) finished 3 for 3 with two runs scored and earned the win in the circle, working five innings, allowing just four hits and three runs.
- Cassie O'Hern (Augusta, NJ/High Point) was 2 for 3 with a double, a triple and five RBIs.
- Hannah Dunlap (Batavia/Oakfield-Alabama) was 2 for 4 with an RBI, and Julia Blujus (Amherst/Sacred Heart) was 2 for 5 with two RBIs.
- Medaille opened the scoring with a double steal in the first inning, but the Bengals answered with seven runs on five hits, two walks and two hit by pitches in the bottom of the frame.
- Buffalo State appeared to take a strangle-hold with another run in the second and three more in the third to take an 11-1 advantage.
- After a pitching change in the fifth, however, Medaille battled back to extend the game, plating five runs on three hits and three walks.
- The Mavericks added two more runs in the sixth to close the gap to 11-8, but were retired in order in the seventh to finally end the game.

- Abby Nicometi was 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs for Medaille, and Hannah LaGrou was 1 for 2 with two RBIs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Castello earned her second win of the day, tossing 4 1/3 innings of one-hit relief, surrendering just one unearned run. She was also 2 for 3 at the plate with and RBI and two runs scored.
- Taylor Benton (Niagara Falls/Niagara Wheatfield) was 2 for 4 with a home run, and Sydney McIntosh (Buffalo/Kenmore West) was 1 for 3 with a double and three RBIs.
- Buffalo State jumped out early in the second game as well, scoring three runs in the first and three more in the second to take a 6-0 lead.
- Medaille clawed its way back into the game with four runs on five hits in the third inning to cut the deficit to two.
- The Bengals pushed the lead back to four with a run in the fourth and another in the fifth.
- Buffalo State looked to close it out in the seventh, but Medaille used four Buffalo State errors to score a run and put two more on base to bring the tying run to the plate, but a flyout to centerfield ended the game.

- LaGrou led Medaille, going 2 for 4 with a double, a homer and two RBIs.
