SUNYAC Playoff Bracket
Buffalo State will make its tenth-consecutive SUNYAC postseason appearance when it hosts No. 6 Potsdam as the No. 3 seed on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
SCOUTING BUFFALO STATE…The Bengals finished the regular season 8-7-1 in SUNYAC play and 12-11-2 overall following a 2-1 win at Cortland on Saturday. Buffalo State split the season series against Potsdam, skating to a 6-3 road win on Nov. 15 before dropping a 2-1 overtime decision to the Bears in the Ice Arena on Feb. 7.
Buffalo State's third-highest scoring offense in the SUNYAC is led by freshman
Nikita Kozyrev (Tallinn, Estonia) who is tied for third in the SUNYAC in scoring and is second in the NCAA Division III among freshman in scoring with 32 points on nine goals and 23 assists in 25 games this season. Senior
Zach Remers (Clarence/Canisius) is seventh in the conference with 26 points on a team-leading 13 goals and 13 assists, while
Vadim Vasjonkin (Tallinn, Estonia) is tied for 10
th with 24 points on 11 goals and 13 assists. Senior
Charles Barber (Queensbury/Lake George) leads the Bengals' defensive corps with 13 points on six goals and seven assists.
Freshman goalie
Emil Norrman (Kungsbacka, Swededn/Jensen) leads the SUNYAC and is 10
th in the NCAA Division III in save percentage with a .934 average in 13 games this season. Normann is also second in the conference in with a 2.24 goals-against-average.
SCOUTING POTSDAM…The Bears closed out the regular season 5-9-1 in conference play and 6-17-2 overall following a SUNYAC loss to Plattsburgh prior to a loss at Canton in last Saturday's season finale. Potsdam enters with the SUNYAC's second-to-last ranked defense, surrendering a 3.50 goals-per-game average.
The Bears boast a balanced attack with eight skaters registering at least 10 points this season. Sophomore Rob Clerc leads Potsdam with 19 points on nine goals and 10 assists in 25 games played. Senior Vinny Guimond has tallied a team-high 10 goals, while senior Tyler Young and sophomore Tom Terranova have each chipped in a team-best 12 assists.
Sophomore goalie Michael Paglucca boasts a .891 save percentage and a 3.40 goals against average.
THE POSTSEASON HISTORY…Buffalo State is 3-0 all-time against Potsdam in SUNYAC postseason action, winning 4-3 in the 2012 quarterfinals, 6-2 in the 2015 quarterfinals and 4-3 in the 2018 quarterfinals. The Bengals' streak of seven-straight SUNYAC semifinal appearances was broken with a 3-2 home loss to Fredonia in the quarterfinals last season.
WHAT'S NEXT…The winner of Wednesday's SUNYAC quarterfinal contest will advance to play either at No. 1 Geneseo or No. 2 Oswego on Saturday, Feb. 29 at 7 p.m.
TICKETS…Tickets for Wednesday's game will go on sale one hour prior to faceoff and are $5 for adults and $3 for students. Buffalo State and any SUNYAC school students are free with a valid ID.
