Volleyball swept at Brockport

BROCKPORT, N.Y.— Brockport jumped out to an early lead, as the Buffalo State volleyball team dropped Friday's SUNYAC matchup to the Golden Eagles in three sets.

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
  • Angelina Scichilone (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East) led the team with seven digs, tying for the team lead with three kills.
  • Samantha Coakley (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport) also led the team with three kills.
  • Riley Domin (Getzville, N.Y./Williamsville South) paced the Buffalo State offense with seven assists.
  • McCartney Geartz (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) recorded a team-leading two blocks.
  • Brockport has won the last seven games between the two teams, improving its record against the Bengals to 50-10.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Brockport jumped out to a 6-0 lead, later going on 9-0 and 5-0 runs to take a 20-2 lead. They would close out the set with four consecutive points.
  • The Bengals took a 7-4 lead in the second set, after a Coakley kill and a block by Coakley, Gertz, and Brielle Bagozzi (Syracuse, N.Y./Solvay).
  • A 12-2 run gave Brockport a 16-9 lead in the second set. The Bengals scored three of four points to reduce the deficit to five.
  • The Golden Eagles increased the lead to seven, then held serve for the 25-16 set victory.
  • Brockport used that momentum in the third set, jumping out to a 9-1 lead. The Golden Eagles finished the match with an 11-1 run.
FOR THE FOES
  • Meaghan Mastro led the Golden Eagles with 13 kills on 20 attempts.
  • Shelby Budnick tallied 16 digs and three service aces.
  • Kerri McHale paced the Brockport offense with 26 assists.
 
UP NEXT
The Bengals will finish the SUNYAC regular season with a trip to Geneseo Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m.
