Women's Soccer downed by league-leading Geneseo

BUFFALO, N.Y.— A balanced Geneseo offense was too much for the Buffalo State women's soccer team, as seven different Knights found the net in a 7-0 loss for the Bengals in SUNYAC action from Coyer Field Friday afternoon.

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
  • The Bengals were outshot by a 30-1 margin, with Heather Moriarty (Mount Morris, N.Y./Keshequa Central) tallying the lone shot off a free kick opportunity in the first half.
  • Isabella Vene (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) made 15 saves in 90 minutes.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a strong defensive effort for the Bengals in the first 14 minutes, Hannah Sullivan got Geneseo on the board in the 15th minute, on a shot from just outside the 18-yard box.
  • In the 27th minute, a long, high through ball by Faye Higgins on the far side near midfield found Lindsey Matthews on the near side, as Matthews tapped the chance in past the Bengal goalie.
  • 35 seconds later, it was Sullivan who fed Nicole Bell on the break, as she tapped in the 2-on-1 chance to take a 3-0 lead in the 28th minute.
  • Geneseo scored twice more in a two-minute span, as Juliette Frischmann and Lindsay Wright scored in the 30th and 32nd minute, respectively.
  • Emily Owenburg made it 6-0 Knights in the 41st minute, with a high, curled shot from the far wing beating the keeper on the near side.
  • Geneseo finished the scoring in the 58th minute, as Alexandra Ross scored from outside the 18-yard box.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Seven different Knights scored and eight tallied at least one point.
  • Angel Bennett earned the victory, making just one save in the first 90 minutes.
  • Mollie Collins supervised a scoreless second half to earn the team shutout.
