Men's Hockey Drops Championship Game 2-1 to Wilkes

BUFFALO, NY — The Buffalo State men's hockey team fell 2-1 to Wilkes in the championship game of the Buffalo State Bengals Classic on Saturday evening at the Ice Arena.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Tyler Vanuden scored the lone goal for Buffalo State, the second straight game that he has scored in.
  • Emil Norrman (Kungsbacka, Sweden/Dells Ducks) stopped 26 shots in a losing effort.
  • Bryan Colburn (Cumberland, RI/Johnson & Wales) won 10 of his 13 faceoffs, while Andrew Logar (Niagara Falls, NY/Corpus Christi Ice Rays) was nine for 13 on faceoffs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Wilkes opened the scoring six minutes into the fame as Nick Swain found the back of the net.
  • The Bengals beat the clock to score the tying goal with under a second remaining in the first period. Vanuden tapped home a rebound with 0.2 seconds left to take the Bengals into intermission tied.
  • The second period featured no scoring, but a few chances for each team.
  • Buffalo State was unable to cash in on two great opportunities in the second period. Colburn was denied by a great save from the Wilkes goaltender on a breakaway in the middle of the second period.
  • Norrman made a strong save from close range to keep things even with five minutes to go in the period.
  • After Buffalo State killed off two penalties early in the third period, the Colonels scored the game-winning goal at even strength with 8:40 remaining.
  • The Bengals pulled their goalie for the final two minutes, but were unable to score the tying goal.
NOTABLES
  • Logar and Vanuden were named to the All-Tournament Team, combining to score all four Buffalo State goals in the two games.

FOR THE FOES
  • Jay Gallagher had the game-winning goal for Wilkes.
  • Michael Paterson-Jones turned aside 19 of the 20 shots from the Bengals for the victory.
