As Buffalo State celebrates its 150th anniversary this year, the athletics department will spotlight a moment from its history each week during the fall semester.
The 1969-70 men's basketball team won the SUNYAC Championship, East Regional Final and eventually made it to the first and only NCAA Division II Final Four in school history. Co-captain Randy Smith earned All-tournament team honors for his performance. Smith graduated in 1971 and went on to play 13 seasons in the NBA, becoming a two-time All-Star and setting a then-record by playing in 906 consecutive games. He was inducted into the of the Buffalo State Athletics Hall of Fame in 1985. The 1969-70 team was inducted into the Buffalo State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2014.
