This Week In Buffalo State Athletics - November 8, 2021

BUFFALO, NY – This week, we wrap up the fall sport season with our final home football game of the year on Saturday. The winter sport seasons are in full swing, as we host men's hockey games on Wednesday and Friday, women's hockey on Friday and Saturday, and swimming and diving on Saturday afternoon, and women's basketball on Saturday evening. Come out and support the Bengals!
 
Bengal Athletes of the Week:
Men's soccer midfielder Pa Lu (Buffalo, NY/International Prep) and volleyball outside hitter Samantha Coakley (Lockport, NY/Lockport) earned this week's Bengal Athlete of the Week honors. Click to read more
 
Men's Soccer (13-6-1, 5-3-1 SUNYAC)
Last Week:
The Bengals fell to Cortland 2-1 in the SUNYAC Semifinals on Wednesday afternoon. Pa Lu scored the lone goal for Buffalo State in the defeat.

Football (0-9, 0-5 Liberty League)
Last Week:
The Bengals fell to Hobart 45-21 on Saturday afternoon. Buffalo State struck first on the opening drive of the game as Thomas Dupee (Brownville, NY/General Brown) found paydirt with an 18-yard touchdown run. The Statesmen responded with 45 straight points, before Cam Sionko (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) threw two touchdown passes in the fourth quarter.

11/6     Hobart 45, Buffalo State 21
This Week:
The Bengals wrap up the season at home on Saturday afternoon, hosting St. Lawrence at 12 p.m. at Coyer Field. The Saints defeated Buffalo State 31-26 in the previous meeting between the teams in 2019. Buffalo State will honor the Pioneers of Bengal Football, bringing back members of the 1980 and 1981 teams, the first teams in program history. They will also honor the 2021-22 seniors.

Volleyball (11-13, 3-6 SUNYAC)
Last Week:
Buffalo State dropped their opening round match of the SUNYAC Tournament on Tuesday evening, losing in three sets to Brockport. Samantha Coakley led the Bengals with eight kills in the loss.

Men's Swimming and Diving (1-4)
Last Week:
The Bengals hosted the Buffalo State Alumni Meet over the weekend, honoring some of the best swimmers and divers in program history.

This Week:
The Bengals are back at home this weekend when they host Cortland on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Men's Hockey (1-1)

The Bengals were off this weekend as they prepare for the start of SUNYAC conference play this week.

This Week:
Buffalo State begins conference play midweek when they host Morrisville State on Wednesday evening. This weekend, the Bengals will play two non-conference games, hosing Hobart on Friday evening, and traveling to take on Elmira College on Saturday afternoon.

Women's Hockey (0-3, 0-1 NEWHL)
Last Week:
Buffalo State dropped their NEWHL opener to Oswego on Saturday afternoon. Angelina Cruzal (Campbell, CA/San Jose Jr. Sharks) scored the goal for Buffalo State, while Jessica Auge (Laingsburg, MI/Honeybaked Detroit) made a career-high 51 saves in goal.

This Week:
The Bengals have two conference games at home over the weekend,  hosting Plattsburgh in their NEWHL home opener on Friday and Cortland on Saturday afternoon.

11/12   vs. Plattsburgh – 4 p.m.
11/13   vs. Cortland – 3 p.m.
 
Women's Basketball
This Week:
Buffalo State heads east to take on Rochester for their season opener on Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. The Yellow Jackets told a 4-0 advantage all-time over the Bengals, including a 63-57 victory in the last meeting. This will be the first meeting between the teams since the 2013-14 season.
This Week's Schedule:
11/9     at Rochester – 6 p.m.
 
Men's Basketball
This Week:
The Bengals return to action on Tuesday evening when they head to Rochester to take on Nazareth at 8 p.m. Buffalo State and Nazareth are tied in the all-time series, each having five victories. The Golden Flyers defeated Buffalo State 78-69 in the last meeting between the schools in 2019.
