BUFFALO, N.Y.—Buffalo State and Alfred University tangled in a pair of long games that produced plenty of offense and a victory for each side, with the Saxons claiming the first contest, 9-5, before the Bengals bounced back with an 8-7 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- An explosive first inning saw each team score four runs on six hits, but the Saxons took control after a pitching change and pulled away for a 9-5 win.
- Alfred added a run in the third and then two more each in the fourth and fifth, before the Bengals completed the scoring with a single run in the seventh.
- Oriana Castello (Pearl River/Nanuet) led the Bengals at the plate, going 3 for 4 with a double and two runs scored.
- Six other Bengals collected one hit apiece, including Ashlyn Swink (Winston-Salem, NC/Mount Tabor) who was 1 for 2 with an RBI single in the seventh.
- Carli Bogue (Elba/Elba) was saddled with the loss, pitching three innings and allowing 11 hits and seven runs (six earned).
- Olivia Carr (West Falls/East Aurora) surrendered three hits and two runs in four innings of relief work.

- Jessica Wilcox earned the win, pitching six innings of three-hit, one-run relief with nine strikeouts.
- Ashley Lugo was 3 for 5 with a home run, a double and two RBIs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Buffalo State powered its way to a 6-0 lead in the third inning, including a five-run second inning. The Saxons battled back to cut the deficit to 7-5 in the sixth inning.
- Kayla Wolinski (Lancaster/Lancaster) tripled down the rightfield line to score Castello in the sixth for a critical insurance run.
- Alfred plated two runs in the seventh on a two-run double, but the Bengals ended the game forcing a ground-out and stranding the potential game-tying run.
- The Bengals scored eight runs on nine hits and three Alfred errors, while the Saxons scored their seven runs on 11 hits and one Bengals' error.
- Wolinski finished 2 for 3 with two RBIs.
- Taylor Benton (Niagara Falls/Niagara Wheatfield) was 2 for 3 with a home run and three runs scored.
- Swink was 2 for 2 with an RBI and a run, and Jenna Wlostowski (Lancaster/Alden) was 1 for 3 with two RBIs.
