Softball drops two against Oswego

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BUFFALO, N.Y.—Oswego hit five home runs in two games, claiming both halves of a SUNYAC doubleheader today at Buffalo State, winning 8-5 and 9-7.
 
GAME 1 BASICS
FINAL SCORE:  Oswego – 8, Buffalo State - 5

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Oswego did most of its damage with the long ball, scoring seven runs, including four home runs in the first three innings.
  • The Lakers added an insurance run in the fifth to push the score to 8-2. 
  • Freshman Caitlyn Parsons (Webster/Webster Thomas) cut into the deficit with an RBI double in the fifth and then again with a two-run homer in the seventh, but the Bengals could not complete the rally.
  • Parsons finished 2 for 4 with three RBIs.
  • Sydney McIntosh (Buffalo/Kenmore West) was 2 fore 4 with two doubles and an RBI.
  • Taylor Benton (Niagara Falls/Niagara Wheatfield) was 2 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored, and Oriana Castello (Pearl River/Nanuet) was 2 for 3 with a run scored.
  • Castello also took the loss in the circle, allowing five runs on five hits in 2 1/3 innings. Olivia Carr (West Falls/East Aurora) pitched 2 2/3 innings, surrendering seven hits and three runs, and Makena Adams (Randolph/Frewsburg) finished the game with two innings of no-hit, scoreless relief.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Zoe Mennig hit a pair of home runs for the Lakers and Samantha Morgan and Fiona Higgins added one apiece.
  • Higgins also pitched the win, allowing nine hits with five strikeouts.
 
GAME 2 BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Oswego jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the top of the first, plating six unearned runs on four hits and two errors.  The Bengals responded with a six-run inning of their own in the bottom of the frame, capitalizing on four hits and three Oswego errors.
  • The Bengals took the lead on an RBI double by Castello in the third inning, but the Lakers responded to even the score in the fifth and then added two more runs in the sixth.
  • Jenna Wlostowski (Lancaster/Alden) was the lone Bengal to collect two hits, finished 2 for 2 with a triple and three RBIs.
  • Carli Bogue (Elba/Elba) took the loss, pitching 5 2/3 innings, allowing 10 hits and nine runs (three earned).
  • Makena Adams (Randolph/Frewsburg) allowed two hits in the final 1 1/3 innings of relief.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Samantha Morgan had a home run and three RBIs.  Taylor DuBois was 3 for 4 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored.
  • Madison Hoeflich earned the win, pitching four innings of scoreless, one-hit relief.
 
Buffalo State will next host Geneseo for another SUNYAC doubleheader on Saturday starting at noon.
