Softball sweeps Oswego in twin bill

OSWEGO, N.Y.—Buffalo State avenged a pair of home losses against Oswego earlier in the season with a two-game sweep at the Lakers today, winning 4-2 and 11-3 in five innings.
 
GAME 1 BASICS
FINAL SCORE:  Buffalo State – 4, Oswego - 2

RECORDS: Buffalo State (7-8/4-5), Oswego (5-8/4-7)
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Makena Adams (Randolph/Frewsburg) pitched a complete-game eight-hitter to carry Buffalo State to a 4-2 victory in the opening game.
  • Buffalo State produced just five hits, but took advantage of a pair of Oswego errors.
  • Taylor Benton (Niagara Falls/Niagara Wheatfield) was 1 for 3 with a double and an RBI, and Savannah Sirico (Mount Marion/Saugerties) was 1 for 4 with an RBI.
  • The Lakers scored first in the second, but Buffalo State answered with two runs each in the fourth and fifth innings.
  • Oswego scored one more run in the seventh and brought the winning run to the plate, but a fly ball to center field ended the game, stranding a pair of runners at second and third.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Fiona Higgins and Zoe Mennig collected two hits apiece for Oswego.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Buffalo State's bats exploded in the late game for 13 hits and 11 runs in just five innings.
  • The Bengals jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the top of the third before the Lakers scored three runs in the bottom of the third, but the Bengals put the game away with four more runs in the fifth.
  • Kayla Wolinski (Lancaster/Lancaster) was 2 for 2 with four RBIs and two runs scored.
  • Sydney McIntosh (Buffalo/Kenmore West) was 2 for 4 with two doubles and two RBIs, and Oriana Castello (Pearl River/Nanuet) was 2 for 3 with two runs scored.
  • Caitlyn Parsons (Webster/Webster Thomas) was also 2 for 4.
  • Carli Bogue (Elba/Elba) earned the win pitching three innings, allowing six hits and three runs.  Olivia Carr (West Falls/East Aurora) threw two innings of scoreless relief with two strikeouts.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Tai Smith was 2 for 2 with a runs scored to lead Oswego.
