Cortland no-hits Softball in late game to complete sweep

CORTLAND, N.Y.—Courtney Kane threw a complete-game no-hitter to pace Cortland to a 4-0 victory in the second game of today's non-conference doubleheader against visiting Buffalo State.  The Red Dragons won the opening game 10-2 in six innings. 
 
GAME 1 BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Cortland scored six runs on seven hits and two Bengals' errors in the sixth inning of today's opening game and end the contest early in a 10-2 victory.
  • Taylor Benton (Niagara Falls/Niagara Wheatfield) was 3 for 3 with a double and a home run for Buffalo State, but the rest of the team could only muster four hits.
  • Ashlyn Swink (Winston-Salem, NC/Mount Tabor) was 1 for 3 with an RBI double.
  • Makena Adams (Randolph/Frewsburg) took just her second loss of the season, lasting 5 1/3 innings and surrendering 10 hits and eight runs (six earned).
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Karlee Weeden improved to 8-1 for Cortland.
  • Cortland finished with 13 hits, including five players with two hits apiece.

  • The Red Dragons scored one run each in the first and second innings and then added two more in the fifth.
  • Carli Bogue (Elba/Elba) was credited with the loss, allowing four runs on eight hits in four innings. Olivia Carr (West Falls/East Aurora) gave up just one hit in two innings of scoreless relief.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Kane allowed just two walks in the complete-game no-hitter.
  • Cortland finished with nine hits, led by Katie O'Gorman who was 2 for 3 with two doubles and two runs scored.
