ROCHESTER, N.Y.— The Buffalo State Women's Soccer team played its first game in 677 days, as Carli Kovarik led host St. John Fisher College with three goals and an assist in a 9-0 decision at Growney Stadium Wednesday afternoon.

- Sophomore forward Macey Gioeli (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) led the Bengals with two shots, both on target.
- Junior goalkeeper Bella Vene (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) made four saves in the first 45 minutes of play.
- Freshman goalkeeper Samantha Kaufman (Cheektowaga, N.Y./West Seneca East) came off the bench in the second half, making two saves in the final 45 minutes.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- St. John Fisher opened the scoring in the 16th minute, as Carli Kovarik fed Emma Spelman on the break. Spelman scored on a low shot from 21 yards out.
- The Bengals nearly equalized in the 26th minute, as Gioeli got behind the defense, but the shot was saved by the Fisher goalkeeper.
- Fisher doubled the lead after drawing a penalty in the 33rd minute, as Kovarik converted the chance into the upper left corner.
- Fisher scored its third goal in the 39th minute on a looping shot by Kayla Rhude.
- The Cardinals began the second half with a quick goal, as Kovarik tapped in a cross from Emma Spelman in the 47th minute.
- Kovarik completed the hat-trick in the 64th minute with a guided shot into the far corner of the net.
- Freshman defender Miya Silva (El Monte, Calif./Arroyo) made a spectacular defensive play in the 67th minute, parrying away a sure Kathleen Rachwal chance at the goal line with a sliding tackle.
- Fisher tallied three goals in the final 20 minutes for the final tally.
- The Cardinals outshot the Bengals by a 32-2 margin.
FOR THE FOES
- Kovarik led the Cardinals with three goals and one assist.
- Kyra Kenyon also tallied a hat-trick, with three goals in the second half.
- Five different Cardinals scored goals.
- Halle Tickell earned the victory in net, making two saves in the first 67 minutes of action.
