FREDONIA, NY – The Buffalo State men's soccer team were off and running Friday afternoon, scoring thrice in a 3-1 victory over Houghton, at the Fredonia Blue Devil Classic from University Stadium.

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
- Senior forward Theo Pencic (Oslo, Norway/Heltberg) scored a goal and added an assist to lead the Bengal offense. He also led the team with four shots.
- Senior midfielder Nemanja Simic (Grand Island/Grand Island) and freshman forward Jamal Belarj (Medford/Longwood) also tallied their first goals of the season.
- The Bengals took a season-best 23 shots, outshooting the Highlanders 23-6.
- Senior goalkeeper Dylan Guarino (Tonawanda/Kenmore East) made one save in the victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After two early looks in the opening minutes, Pencic found Simic in the sixth minute, as Simic slotted the ball past Houghton keeper Joshua Ludolph in the far corner of the net.
- After a few close calls, Buffalo State doubled its lead in the 35th minute, as senior Pa Lu (Buffalo/International Prep) found an unmarked Belaj, as the rookie slotted his shot high and to the corner for his first collegiate goal.
- Bengals open the second half with a 54th-minute goal, as junior forward Rosh Hamza (Buffalo/Burgard)'s service was deflected, but into the waiting feet of Pencic, who tapped the chance from in front of net.
- Pencic nearly tallied another in the 69th minute, as a pair of shots in front of net were parried away by Ludolph and blocked by a Houghton defender.
- Houghton got on the board in the 74th minute, as Alex Kalivoda connected with Andy Loomis for the goal.
FOR THE FOES
- Loomis led the way with the goal, finding one of two Houghton shots on target.
- Blake Eby also took a shot on target to lead the Highlanders.
- Ludolph was busy over the 90 minutes, making eight saves.
