Women's Soccer Drops Opening Game of Bengal Classic 4-0 to Penn State Behrend

BUFFALO, NY - The Buffalo State women's soccer team kicked off the 2021 Buffalo State Bengal Classic with a 4-0 loss to Penn State Behrend on Saturday afternoon.

  • Junior goalkeeper Bella Vene (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) made 13 saves for the Bengals.
  • Macey Gioeli (N. Tonawanda, N.Y./N. Tonawanda) led the Buffalo State offense with one shot on goal.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Lions got on the board first in the 24th minute when Isabella Mollica played a through ball to Mia Zec past the Bengal defense, and Zec powered a left-footed shot into the upper right corner of the net.
  • Penn State Behrend doubled their lead in the 71st minute on a goal by Christine Patterson. After having her cross on a corner kick deflected back out to her, Patterson delivered a volley from outside the box on the right side into the top left corner of the net.
  • The Lions added two insurance goals in the last five minutes, including a goal in the final 10 seconds.
FOR THE FOES
  • Patterson had one goal and one assist to lead Penn State Behrend.
  • The Lions had four different players score goals in the game and six players registered a point.
