Volleyball Rolls to Three-Set Sweep of Medaille

BUFFALO, NY – The Buffalo State volleyball dominated from start to finish as they defeated the visitors Medaille in a three-set sweep on Tuesday evening at the Sports Arena.

 INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE

  • Alena McKelvey (Buffalo, NY/City Honors) led the Bengals with seven kills, while Kayla Wolinski (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) added six kills.
  • Jenna Hugenschmidt (Clarence Center, NY/Clarence) recorded a game-high 12 digs. She also had two of the five Bengal service aces in the match and was a perfect nine for nine on service reception. 
  • Riley Domin (Getzville, NY/Williamsville South) handed out 15 assists in the victory.  
  • Liz Schultheis (Holley, NY/Brockport) and Samantha Coakley (Lockport, NY/Lockport) each tallied five kills. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Leading 5-3 in the first set, Abby Verner (Ransomville, NY/Trinity) led the Bengals on a 10-point serving run to increase the lead to 15-3. From that point, Buffalo State cruised to a 25-15 victory.
  • Buffalo State jumped out to a 13-3 lead in the second set, thanks once again to a serving run led by Verner. This time it was a five-point run that extended the Bengal's lead from five points to 10.
  • With the score tied at 9-9 in the third set, the Bengals got two kills by McKelvey, sandwiched around a block by McCartney Geartz (N. Tonawanda, NY/N. Tonawanda), to take control of the final set. Buffalo State won 13 of the next 20 points to win the match. 

 FOR THE FOES 

  • Chase Luebeck had seven kills for the visiting Mavericks.
