CANTON, N.Y.— The Buffalo State men's soccer team stumbled in their season opener, falling 3-1 to St. Lawrence University this afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams had shaky starts to the game, with defensive miscues leading to goals for each team in the opening 15 minutes.
- The Saints took the lead in the seventh minute when Robert Reynolds pounced on a golden opportunity provided to him by the Bengal goalkeeper and buried the ball into an open net.
- The Bengals got even in the 15th minute on an own goal when a St. Lawrence defender sent a wayward back pass into his own net.
- The Bengals went played nearly the entire second half down a man after a sending off for a second yellow in the 47th minute.
- The Saints took advantage of the extra man opportunity just three minutes later when Michael McDougald smashed a free kick from five yards outside the box into the right corner of the net.
- St. Lawrence added an insurance goal in the 61st minute for the 3-1 victory.
FOR THE FOES
- Reynolds, McDougald, and Parker Hotchkiss recorded the goals for the Saints.
- Ben Woelfinger made seven saves in goal for the victory.
