BUFFALO, NY—The Buffalo State women's hockey team fell on the wrong end of a five-goal second period, as the Bengals' upset bid falls short to SUNY Canton by a 4-2 score in NEWHL action Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Despite being outshot 14-3 in the first period, Auge and the Bengal defense held strong as the teams finished the opening frame without a score.
- Buffalo State struck first 2:04 into the second period. After winning the face-off in their attacking end, Running Rabbit and Tingley fed Mindzora in front of a crowded net, as she was able to push the puck past Canton goalie Sirena Alvarez.
- Five minutes later, Canton took advantage of its first power play attempt, as Sandrene Garofalo slotted a shot past Auge from the point, tying the game at one.
- The Kangaroos took advantage of that momentum 30 seconds later at 7:43, as Brycelan Sunday fed Meaghan Best from along the boards behind the net, as she fed Kelley Leathem for the goal.
- Undeterred, the Bengals tied the game on their first power play chance of the contest, as Cruzal fed Adimey at the point, who slotted a pass to Horvatits for an impressive one-timer at 13:03.
- Canton finished the five-goal flurry at 18:32, as Gracyn Emmerton fed Verity Lewis for the eventual game-winner.
- Canton added an insurance goal with 2:57 left in regulation, forcing the Bengals turnover deep in their own end, as Best found Bryceland in front of the net, glove-side.
FOR THE FOES
- Best finished with two assists and also won 10-of-17 faceoffs.
- Sunday scored one and assisted on another, as her and best finished with a team-high +2 on the ice.
- Alvarez made 17 saves to earn the victory in net.
- Canton outshot Buffalo State by a 42-19 margin, and went 1-for-3 with the extra-man advantage.
