Women’s Hockey returns to action with road loss at Morrisville

MORRISVILLE, N.Y.—Sophomore Bethany Horvatits (Elma, N.Y./Syracuse Chiefs) and freshman Katie Sarich (Columbia, Md./Washington Pride) tallied goals for the Buffalo State women's hockey team, but it wasn't enough as the Bengals returned to action with a 9-2 loss at Morrisville State Tuesday afternoon, the team's first action in 17 days.

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
  • Horvatits tallied her third goal of the year and second in as many games.
  • Sarich's second period goal was the first of her career.
  • Sage Running Rabbit (Siksika, AB/Southern Express Elite) assisted on both goals.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Morrisville State fired the first salvo at 2:32, as Allicen Bouchard found Allie Davidson for the goal, the only score of the opening period.
  • Midway through the second period, the Mustangs caught fire with three goals in a 2:36 span, as Davidson scored a pair and Rhys Brown added a score to take a 4-0 lead
  • Near the end of the period, Running Rabbit found Sarich for the goal at 17:11.
  • Bouchard answered for Morrisville over a minute later to end the second period scoring with the Mustangs leading 5-1.
  • Pippy Prichard opened the third period with a power-play goal at 3:25, with Brown and Alana McDonald assisting.
  • Midway through the period, it was Prichard and McDonald that found Brown, her second of the game at 10:40.
  • 'State broke the Morrisville run just over 2:30 later, as Running Rabbit and Cruzal fed Horvatits for the goal.
  • Morrisville completed another four-goal period, ending the scoring with tallies by Prichard and Madison Tomkins.

FOR THE FOES
  • Davidson tallied a hat trick, adding an assist for four points.
  • Brown and Prichard tallied two goals and added two assists for four points.
  • Emma Plett tallied 12 saves to earn the victory in net.
  • Morrisville outshot Buffalo State by a 42-14 margin, and finished a perfect 2-for-2 with the extra-man advantage.
 
UP NEXT
The Bengals will host Potsdam for a pair of games, the team's final weekend homestand of the season. The action between the two teams begins Friday at 7 p.m.
