Eyes on the Bengals

-Buffalo State sits at 4-11-0 overall (2-5-0 SUNYAC), looking to halt a four-game skid in SUNYAC play. The Bengals fell to Oswego, 5-0, in their last contest on Friday evening.

-Thirteen different players have scored for Buffalo State this year, and seven of those players have scored multiple times this season.

-Buffalo State is led in point scoring by sophomore Nikita Kozyrev (Tallinn, Estonia/Springfield Jr. Blues), who has 11 points on four goals and seven assists. Junior Joel Frazee (Monroe, MI/Shreveport Mudbugs) is the Bengals' leading goal scorer, with seven goals this season.

-Buffalo State is fifth in the nation in penalty killing percentage, allowing just five goals on 57 power plays (.912) for the opposition.

The Breakdown on the Blue Devils

-Fredonia enters the weekend with a 4-6-1 overall record (2-4-0 SUNYAC). The Blue Devils have yet to take the ice in the 2022 year due to four cancellations. Fredonia fell to Cortland, 4-2, in its last contest on Dec. 11, and is looking to end a three-game losing streak.

-David Sudbrink is the Blue Devils' leading scorer, tallying four goals and six assists on the season. He also has six points on three goals and three assists in six conference games.

-Logan Dyck has been solid in goal for Fredonia, allowing a 2.69 GAA and recording a .929 save percentage in nine games.

The History

Fredonia holds a 40-17-10 advantage over Buffalo State all-time, but the Bengals came out on top in the last meeting between the squads. A.J. Marinelli (Amherst, NY/Lockport Regals) netted the game-winning goal in a 4-3 Buffalo State victory on Feb. 1, 2020.

2021-22 Battle by the Lake

Established for the 2014-15 season, the "Battle by the Lake" is a season-long "all sports" competition between Buffalo State and Fredonia. Each sport in which the two schools compete is worth two points annually. In sports which meet once per regular season, each game is worth two points and ties are worth one point. In sports that play twice during the regular season (softball, men's hockey and men's and women's basketball), each game will be worth one point, and ties will be worth a point. In the sports of cross country, swimming & diving, indoor track & field and outdoor track & field, the team that finishes higher at the SUNYAC Championship meet will earn two points for its school. The school with the most points at the end of the season will earn the Lake Erie Cup and keep the cup on its campus for the following year.
