Men's Hockey Falls to Morrisville in Overtime

MORRISVILLE, NY — The host Mustangs scored the game-winning goal with a minute left in overtime to defeat the Buffalo State men's hockey team, 3-2, on Saturday evening.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • A.J. Marinelli (Amherst, NY/Lockport Regals) scored a goal for Buffalo State, his second consecutive game with a goal. 
  • Parker Allison (Dallas, TX/Neepawa Natives) also scored a goal for the Bengals, tying the game in the third period.
  • Nikita Kozyrev (Tallinn, Estonia/Springfield Jr. Blues) registered assists on both Buffalo State goals.
  • Emil Norrman (Kungsbacka, Sweden/Dells Ducks) stopped 24 shots in a losing effort.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Marinelli got the Bengals on the board first in the last minute of the opening period, ripping a shot from the right circle into the left corner of the net after a great pass from behind the net from Kozyrev.
  • Morrisville equalized less than thirty seconds later, as a shot snuck just underneath Norrman and into the back of the net.  
  • The teams entered the first intermission even at 1-1.
  • Bengals began to create more pressure in the second period, and had a few good chances denied by strong saves from the Morrisville goalie in the final minutes of the period.
  • The teams entered the second intermission still tied at 1-1.
  • Five minutes in the third period, the Bengals had a power-play opportunity, but weren't able to convert the man advantage into a goal,
  • Nearing the midway point of the period, the Mustangs took advantage of a Buffalo State turnover in the neutral zone to score for a 2-1 lead.
  • After another Mustangs penalty two minutes later, Buffalo State equalized with a power-play goal, as Allison ripped a slapshot from the left point into the net.
  • The scored remained 2-2 at the end of regulation, and the teams headed to a three-on-three overtime period.
  • With a minute remaining in the extra period, Morrisville found the back of the net for the game-winner.
FOR THE FOES
  • Cameron Clark scored the game-winning goal for Morrisville, while Garrett Boyonowski stopped 24 shots to earn the victory in goal.

UP NEXT
Buffalo State will head to the North Country next weekend, facing Plattsburgh on Friday evening, and Potsdam on Saturday night.
