Men's Hockey Defeats Lawrence 2-1

BUFFALO, NY – Tyler Vanuden (Fort Frances, ON/Finlandia University) scored both Buffalo State goals, and Emil Norrman (Kungsbacka, Sweden/Dells Ducks) made 44 saves as the Buffalo State men's hockey earned a 2-1 victory over Lawrence to complete a 2-0 weekend at the Ice Arena on Saturday evening.

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE:
  • Vanuden's two goals were the second and third goals of his season.
  • Norrman was sensational for the second consecutive game, now having allowed just one goal on 81 shots to open the season.
  • Four different players also added assists for Buffalo State including A.J. Marinelli (Amherst, NY/Lockport Regals), Connor Bizal (Elk River, MN/Boston Jr. Rangers), Andrew Logar (Niagara Falls, NY/Corpus Christi Ice Rays), and Chris Blango (Chadds Ford, PA/Philadelphia Little Flyers).
  • Both of the Bengals' goals came on the power play.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Vanuden started the scoring for Buffalo State just over five minutes into the first period, ripping a wrist shot from the bottom of the right faceoff circle off a strong feed from A.J. Marinelli.
  • The Vikings drew even past the midway point of the frame, netting a goal after the puck was deflected in front of goal right to an open shooter.
  • The teams entered the first intermission with the score tied at 1-1.
  • Vanuden netted the eventual game-winning goal on a 4-on-3 advantage with under seven minutes left in the second period, as Logar fed him at the right faceoff dot for the goal.
  • Norrman stood strong in goal after the Bengals took the lead, stopping all 32 shots he faced in the final two frames.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Zack Olen scored the lone Lawrence goal.
UP NEXT
The Bengals will open SUNYAC play next weekend on the road, facing Fredonia State in a Battle by the Lake contest on Friday at 7 p.m.
