Men's Soccer Drops SUNYAC Matchup to Cortland

BUFFALO, NY - The visiting Red Dragons scored three second-half goals to take control in a 3-0 victory over the Buffalo State men's soccer team on Saturday evening at Coyer Field.

  • Shae Wirt (Overland Park, KS/St. Thomas Aquinas) made six saves in goal for the Bengals.
  • Moe Saif (Lackawanna, NY/Coppell, TX) and Ali Mohammed (Lackawanna, NY/Lackawanna) each had a pair of shots on goal for Buffalo State.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Each team had a couple of solid chances in the first half, but neither team was able to score in the opening 45 minutes.
  • Ayden Cristales (Williamson, NY/Williamson) made a solid defensive play to deny a 2-on-1 opportunity for the Red Dragons in the 32nd minute. 
  • Wirt made another solid save to stop A.J. Ali in the 42nd minute from close range.
  • The Red Dragons scored a trio of goals in the second-half to take control.
  • Cortland got on the board first in the 54th minute when Mateo Marra finished with his left foot into the top of the net.
  • The Red Dragons added a second goal eight minutes later on a header by Alex Lessman off a corner kick.
  • Cortland wrapped up the scoring with a goal from Yasin Choukri with two minutes left.
FOR THE FOES
  • Six different players registered a point for Cortland.
  • Luke van Galen made five saves in keeping a clean sheet.
