ROCHESTER, NY – Host St. John Fisher raced out to an early lead, and the Bengals were unable to recover as the Buffalo State women's basketball team dropped its season opener, 80-49, to the nationally-ranked Cardinals on Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Bengals started out slowly, missing their first five attempts from the field, and falling behind 18-4 at the midway point of the first quarter.
- Buffalo State closed the frame on a 12-4 run to pull to within 22-16 at the end of one quarter of play.
- St. John Fisher outscored Buffalo State 28-7 in the second quarter to take a 50-23 halftime lead.
- The Cardinals continued to build their lead in the third quarter.
- Buffalo State got it going on offense to begin the fourth quarter, opening the frame on a 12-3 run.
- The Bengals outscored St. John Fisher 16-9 in the fourth quarter, but it wasn't nearly enough as the Cardinals cruised to victory.

- Katie Moravec led the Cardinals with 16 points, while Presleigh Brunner added six points and a game-high eight boards.
