Marinelli's Overtime Goal Lifts Men's Hockey to 3-2 Win Over Brockport

BROCKPORT, NY – After host Brockport tied the score in the final seconds of regulation, A.J. Marinelli (Amherst, NY/Lockport Regals) sniped the overtime winner to give the Buffalo State men's hockey team a 3-2 victory on the road on Friday evening.

-Marinelli scored the game-winning on his first and only shot of the game.
 
-Connor Bizal (Elk River, MN/Boston Jr. Rangers) scored his first collegiate goal on the power play to tie the game in the second period, and Joe Glamos (Baldwinsville, NY/New Jersey Titans) gave the Bengals the lead in the third period and had a team-high nine shots on goal.
 
-Hayden Ford (Medford, NJ/Philadelphia Revolution) tallied two assists.
 
-Emil Norrman (Kungsbacka, Sweden/Dells Ducks) stopped 44 shots to earn the victory in goal.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
-Neither team scored in the opening period despite chances for each side, with Norrman making nine saves in the frame.
 
-Brockport opened the scoring in the second period with less than five minutes remaining to take a 1-0 lead.
 
-Buffalo State responded with a power-play goal by Bizal with under three minutes left in the period to tie the game at the second intermission. Tyler Vanuden (Fort Frances, ON/Finlandia University) and Michael McCosh (Glendale, AZ/New Mexico Ice Wolves) notched assists on the goal.
 
-Norrman made 21 saves in the second period to anchor Buffalo State as the Golden Eagles outshot the Bengals 22-9 in the period.
 
-Less than five minutes into the third period, Glamos knocked in the puck off assists from Ford and Nikita Kozyrev (Tallinn, Estonia/Springfield Jr. Blues) to give the Bengals a 2-1 lead.
 
-With just under three minutes remaining in regulation, McCosh took a tripping penalty, which the Buffalo State penalty kill was able to kill off.
 
-With 5.5 seconds remaining in the game, Andrew Harley scored to tie the game, sending the home crowd into a frenzy.
 
-After missed chances from each side in overtime, Marinelli ripped a wrist shot into the top corner of the net to give the Bengals the victory, with Ford and Andrew Logar (Niagara Falls, NY/Corpus Christi Ice Rays) recording assists.

-The win ends Buffalo State's 12-game losing skid that dated back to Nov. 23, 2021.

The Bengals' game against Geneseo scheduled for tomorrow has been postponed. If a make-up game is not scheduled for next week, Buffalo State will host Cortland on Friday evening at the Ice Arena for its next game.
