Lacrosse Wins Season Opener over Medaille, 10-7

BUFFALO, NY – Sarah Fineour (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) scored four goals in her first game as a Bengal to lead the Buffalo State lacrosse team to a 10-7 victory over Medaille in its season opener on Wednesday evening.

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
-Fineour converted all four of her shots into goals.
-Lauren Rinow (Lakeview, NY/Frontier) scored twice and added an assist as well.
-Julia Wachna (Syracuse, NY/Onondaga), Kacey Stack (Blasdell, NY/Frontier), Liz Schultheis (Holley, NY/Brockport), and Sage Running Rabbit (Siksika, AB/Strathmore) also scored for the Bengals.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Wachna got the Bengals on the board just under two minutes into the game, but Medaille responded with a goal to even the score at 1-1 after five minutes of play.
-Fineour scored her first goal off a great feed from Wachna in front of goal, followed by a Schultheis goal early in the second period.
-The Mavericks responded with a pair of goals of their own to knot things up at 3-3 at halftime.
-The Bengals scored five consecutive goals in the second half to take a commanding 8-3 lead.
-Ricki Miller (Ohsweken, ON/Hagersville) made a great feed to Fineour for a goal early in the third period, and the pair linked up again just 19 seconds later with an almost identical goal to give Buffalo State a two-goal advantage.
-After Fineour's fourth goal of the game just 17 seconds into the fourth quarter, Medaille responded with three straight goals to reduce the Buffalo State lead to 8-6.
-Running Rabbit made a move from behind the Mavericks' goal, and ripped a shot past the goalie to restore a three-goal advantage.
-Medaille tallied another goal, but Rinow sealed the victory with a goal with two minutes left for the 10-7 final score.
 
FOR THE FOES
-Katelynn Deveans scored three times for Medaille, while goalie Tatiana Wright made 16 saves.
 
UP NEXT
The Bengals host Allegheny College on Saturday, with the game scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
