Lacrosse Earns 11-5 Victory over Alfred

ALFRED, NY – The Buffalo State lacrosse team raced out to an early lead, and the Bengals' defense forced 19 turnovers in a dominant defensive display to earn a 11-5 victory over Alfred University in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon.

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
 
-Julia Wachna (Syracuse, NY/Onondaga) led Buffalo State with a career-high seven points on four goals and three assists.
 
-Liz Schultheis (Holley, NY/Brockport) and Sarah Fineour (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) each had two goals and an assist.
 
-Sage Running Rabbit (Siksika, AB/Strathmore) scored two goals, her third consecutive game with multiple goals.
 
-Janae Nelson (Elmont, NY/Elmont Memorial) earned her second win of the season in goal, stopping six shots in goal.
 
-The Bengals outshot the Saxons 39-16, including a 30-11 edge in shots on goal.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
-The Bengals struck first just before the midway point of the first period, as Wachna fed Lauren Rinow (Lakeview, NY/Frontier) with a perfect pass in front for the goal.  
 
-Fineour scored two minutes later, and Schultheis added a pair of goals for Buffalo State, including a goal with one second remaining in the frame as the Bengals held a 4-0 lead after one.
 
-The teams traded goals in the second quarter, and the Bengals entered halftime with a 6-3 lead.
 
-Wachna scored her second of the game at 12:53 of the third quarter to extend the Bengals' lead to 7-3.
 
-After an Alfred goal to cut into the lead, Running Rabbit responded just 13 seconds later to restore the four-goal advantage.
 
-Wachna found Fineour in front for a goal early in the fourth quarter, and Fineour returned the favor less than a minute later as the Bengals led 10-4.   

-The Saxons pulled to within five with just under 10 minutes remaining, but Wachna's fourth goal of the game sealed the victory with 1:33 remaining.
 
FOR THE FOES

-Amelia Booth scored three goals for Alfred, and goalie Alyssa Piechota made 19 saves for the Saxons.
