Lacrosse Falls to Geneseo in SUNYAC Opener

GENESEO, NY – The Buffalo State lacrosse team dropped its SUNYAC opener on the road to Geneseo on Wednesday afternoon, falling to the Knights by a score of 17-4.

-Sarah Fineour scored her team-leading 13th goal of the season.  
 
-Julia Wachna (Syracuse, NY/Onondaga) scored for the third consecutive game.
 
-Ricki Miller (Ohsweken, ON/Hagersville) scored her first collegiate goal.
 
-Kacey Stack (Blasdell, NY/Frontier) added a goal, while Sage Running Rabbit (Siksika, AB/Strathmore) chipped in an assist.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
-Geneseo opened the game by scoring the first five goals of the contest to take a 5-0 lead.
 
-Wachna netted a goal for the Bengals from a free position shot with under two minutes left in the period, but the Knights scored with five seconds left in the frame to lead 6-1 after one.
 
-The Knights scored four more times early in the second period to extend the lead to 10-1, but Miller scored off a pass from Sage Running Rabbit to cut into the Bengals' deficit.
 
-Geneseo tacked on a pair of late goals to take a 12-2 halftime lead.
 
-The Knights scored four more goals in the third period.
 
-After Liz Schultheis (Holley, NY/Brockport) won the opening draw control of the fourth quarter, Stack capped a solid first possession of the quarter by picking up a loose ball in front of goal and shooting low past the goalie.
 
-Sarah Fineour scored from a free position shot with just under six minutes left.
 
-Geneseo completed the scoring with just over three minutes remaining for the 17-4 final score.
 
FOR THE FOES
 
-Hannah Marafioti had four goals and two assists to lead Geneseo.
 
UP NEXT
 
The Bengals will look to bounce back against Potsdam in another SUNYAC road matchup on Saturday, with the game set to start at 12 p.m.
