CLERMONT, Fla. – The late morning rainstorm was too much for both the Buffalo State softball team and Trinity (Conn.) on Thursday, as the game was eventually called with one out in the bottom of the sixth inning. Trinity held the lead and therefore took the 7-2 win. The scheduled contest against Washington & Jefferson was rained out.
GAME BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Trinity – 7, Buffalo State – 2 (6 1/3 innings)
LOCATION: Legends Way Ballfields – Clermont, Fla.
RECORDS: Buffalo State (3-7), Trinity (5-2)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Trinity took an early lead on a pair of two run innings in the first and second frames.
- The Bengals responded in the top of the third, as Kayla Wolinski (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster) singled up the middle with two outs, scoring Oriana Castello (Pearl River, N.Y./Nanuet) from third base.
- The Bengals cut further into the deficit in the next inning, as a leadoff Sydney McIntosh (Buffalo, N.Y./Kenmore West) double led to a sacrifice fly by Abigail Kruse (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South), as Trinity led 4-2 after four innings.
- As the rain began to fall harder, the Bantams took advantage of Bengal miscues. Trinity scored twice in the fifth thanks to a pair of wild pitches and walks.
- In the sixth, an error at first base led to a run, before the rain was just too much for both teams and the game was called.
- The Bengals tallied seven hits in the shortened contest.
- McIntosh and Castello each tallied two hits.
